My name is Geneal Washam, I have three wonderful kids, Alex (11), Alaysia (8), & Joseph (5). Originally from Waynesboro, MS, One day I decided it was time for a change. Living in Wayne County my entire life I decided I wanted a fresh start, a different environment for my kids, so we moved to Hattiesburg in August of 2010. Even though we were only a hour away from family and had traveled to Hattiesburg on numerous occasions in the past, we felt like strangers in a new town and just like the Beverly Hillbillies when they struck gold and moved to Hollywood. The kids and I were so excited! We settled in a apartment and quickly begin adapting to life the big town of (Hattiesburg, MS). I signed up with Habitat in 2011 as a volunteer, my name was placed on the waiting list and I never thought more about it. One day in the summer of 2013 I received a phone call from Mrs. Amy. She asked was I still interested in volunteering and I immediately said yes! I came for orientation and to learn more about the program and decided this would be a great opportunity to be a future home owner. After completing the application process and waiting on pins and needles with what seemed like forever (actually about month if that) we got the phone call we were accepted and met all qualifications. I think I shouted, praised God, and did some happy dances all day!.  I have been employed at Ellisville State School for 11 1/2 years. I begin my career as a direct care worker in the winter of 2003, and over the years I have advanced to many positions. I am currently in the Reimbursement Dept. as an Accountant Auditor II. My kids attend Thames Elementary. They keep me on the go, involved with sports all year round. Hattiesburg /Dixie Youth – baseball, basketball, and soccer. Yes all three even my five year old. As a future Habitat Home Owner I have been privileged to work with some awesome people. There genuine and the love shows abundantly. My kids and I are so excited about our future home and we thank God every day. All glory goes to God! As a child I never thought dreams come true, but as an adult I can say they truly do!! We love Habitat for Humanity!
